Dear Writer,

The University of Tampa Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing is a low-residency program designed to help apprentice writers advance their command of craft through exposure to literature from a writerly perspective. We’ve created a program that combines two large ideasthat writing is at its heart a recursive and frequently collaborative endeavor, reflected in the supportive community built within a small workshop, and that each student should have an ongoing relationship with an individual mentor.

We accept applications year-round, with priority given to applications that are received by April 1 for the June residency, and Nov. 1 for the January term. However, we do accept students on a space available basis; there are still a limited number of slots available in our June 2015 entering cohort.

The two-year, four-term course of individualized study encourages the rich interplay of participation in an extended literary community, and it seeks to deepen the understanding of writing as an ongoing engagement with discovery and transformation. Our courses are intimate, capped at five students, allowing for residencies to be a richly immersive experience. You'll be directed to more information about our faculty and visitors after submitting the form to the left.

UT's low-residency format allows students to lead their lives year-round, while completing on campus studies during a 10-day on campus experience in January and June.
