The good news for nonprofits is that the average employment growth rate is significantly higher than business and government sectors.The bad news? The management retirement rate in nonprofits is just as high, resulting in an increasing need for qualified and knowledgeable leaders.
In response, the Nonprofit Leadership Center and the Conn Foundation partnered to develop a nonprofit management program at UT. Now in its 11th year, the program trains both future leaders and people already in the field who want to up their game and improve their skills.

The University of Tampa and Abu Dhabi University have partnered to offer a dual degree MBA/M.S. in global business program for students who live in the United Arab Emirates.Students in the program will attend classes in the UAE and in The University of Tampa’s Sykes College of Business and will earn both an executive master's in business administration through Abu Dhabi University (ADU) and a Master of Science in global business from The University of Tampa (UT).

While there has been much talk about the farm-to-table trend, UT’s Heather O’Connor MBA ’17 and Professor Bella Galperin found a niche with little light: the movement’s potential for entrepreneurs.“This project is on sustainable farming, but also farming from an entrepreneurial perspective,” said Galperin, senior associate director of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership.

Rashid Gargash ’17 doesn’t have a child of his own, but he is familiar with how dangerous a hot car can be to a child or pet left inside. Gargash is from Dubai, a place where summer temperatures easily exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
“It’s an issue there, just like in the U.S.,” said Gargash. The average annual number of heatstroke deaths of children in cars is 37, according to research at NoHeatStroke.org.
It’s why he spent his winter break back home, working. Gargash is part of a team that has developed a device to prevent hot car deaths. Their product, Sense A Life, is a small sensor placed on a car seat that is activated when the vehicle door opens, alerting the driver with an audible sound and, if ignored, through a mobile phone application.

A team of nine University of Tampa students took first and second place in two of three categories in the regional Beta Alpha Psi Best Practices Competition, which was held at the 2016 Beta Alpha Psi Southeast Regional meeting in Birmingham on Feb. 27–28.Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for financial information students and professionals.
