Students working in student staff positions, such as resident assistants, are vital to supporting the Office of Resident Life’s mission and providing great service to fellow residents, campus partners and visitors. In addition to resident assistants, students can become desk assistants, information desk assistants and office assistants for Residence Life.

Live-On Student Staff Positions

Resident Assistants (RAs) live and work within one of the residence halls to foster a safe and welcoming community for residents. Under the direct supervision of an Area Coordinator (AC), RAs work to create a positive and safe community by utilizing our Spartan Living residential curriculum.

The 2024-2025 RA Application process has concluded. The resident assistant process for the 2025-2026 academic year will begin in the fall of 2024.

Students interested in becoming a resident assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year can apply via InvolveUT. Applications are scheduled to open Monday, Nov. 25.

Current first year residential students are eligble to start in Fall 2025 and continuing students are eligble to start as early as Spring 2025.

The application deadline for the Fall 2025-Spring 2025 cycle is due Friday, Dec. 19, 2024, at 11:55 p.m.

All applicants for the RA position must:

  • Complete all required application materials.
    • Submit a written application through InvolveUT
    • Attend an information session in the Fall 2024 semester. The full schedule of information sessions is under the Residence Life InvolveUT page.
  • Have been enrolled at The University of Tampa as a full-time student for one year prior to the start of employment (current freshmen are eligible to apply).
  • Have and maintain a minimum 2.6 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) semester and cumulative GPAs.
  • Satisfactory passing of both a student conduct record check and background check.

Candidates who successfully meet the above requirements will be invited to participate in a two-part RA interview process in January 2025. More information on the times and structure of the interview will be provided to those candidates who move forward in our selection process.

Hourly Student Staff Positions

Desk Assistants (DA) staff the front desk area of each residence hall and act as liaisons to the Area Coordinator and resident assistants during operating hours. DAs check out materials to residents, such as vacuum cleaners and recreational equipment. These students also provide customer service, resources, assist with facilities requests and perform other related duties as directed by the student assistant coordinator and/or Area Coordinator.

Information Desk Attendants (IDA) provide knowledge about university services and events to the campus community and guests of The University of Tampa. IDAs are responsible for providing excellent customer service 24 hours a day, while managing the daily operations of the Vaughn Center information desk, including the distribution of loan keys and logging packages.

Office Assistants (OA) serve as the first point of contact and representative for the Office of Residence Life and are responsible for assisting with day-to-day administrative and customer service responsibilities. These student employees are a service provider and resource for current residential students, families, visitors and persons outside of the University community. OAs report directly to the staff assistant.

Hiring for hourly staff typically takes place in the spring for the upcoming academic year. Applications for hourly student staff positions can be submitted through Workday.
