Items to Bring
Here is a list of the basic necessities for on-campus living. While many of these may appear obvious, it is still very possible to accidentally forget a few items that may come in handy.
Important/School Items
- Wallet/cardholder (to keep your student ID to scan into the residence hall)
- Keychain
- Computer with ethernet/wireless card
- School supplies
- Cellphone
- Calendar/planner
Household items
- Cups/plates/utensils (for snacking in the room)
- Comforter/blanket
- Sheets
- Pillows/pillowcases
- Hairdryer
- Towels
- Hangers
- Umbrella/raincoat
- Small refrigerator* (must be no larger than 6 cubic feet, 36 inches high, 24 inches wide and 26 inches deep, or exceed 1.8 amps and 110 volts)
- Microwave oven (700 watts or less)
Cleaning supplies
- HE Laundry detergent**
- Laundry hamper
- Wastebasket
- Broom/Swiffer
- Lysol, disinfecting wipes, bathroom cleaners, etc.
Toiletries
- Shampoo/conditioner
- Soap
- Toothbrush/toothpaste

Items to leave at home:
The following items, if found on campus, may be a violation of University policy and may result in a referral to Student Conduct or to the Office of Residence Life. A more extensive list can be found on the Campus Living Policies Page.
- All firearms (including, but not limited to, handguns, rifles, pellet guns, BB guns)
- All other weapons (including, but not limited to, swords bow and arrows, balloon slingshots, martial arts weapons, hunting knives)
- LED self-adhesive string lights
- Wallpaper and wall stickers
- Dartboards and darts
- Fireworks or other explosives
- Candles and incense
- Pets (with the exception of fish in a tank no larger than 10 gallons, and then only with roommate’s approval)
- Barbecue grills, George Foreman-type grills, and toaster ovens
- Waterbeds
- Lofts of any kind
- Bed risers
- Additional furniture or large items
* The Office of Residence Life also partners with Campus Specialties Inc for an optional Microfridge rental program. Microfridge units are perfect for any room or suite and are equipped with a microwave, freezer, and refrigerator all in one attached unit. Roommates also have the option to share the Microfridge unit and split the cost. Before move in, Microfridges are delivered to student rooms and are picked up at the end of the school year, after students move out. Microfridge units can be rented through the Campus Specialties website www.mymicrofridge.com, or by phone at 1-800-525-7307.
** All campus laundry rooms are equipped with High-Efficiency (HE) washers and dryers free of charge. For best results, use HE detergent. Always follow the manufacturer’s directions on the detergent bottle label, since it’s specially formulated for HE machines. Pre-measured HE liquid packets are also recommended.
