UT to Present Chekhov’s The Seagull March 31–April 3
From March 31–April 3, The University of Tampa will stage Anton Chekhov’s famous drama of love, art and struggle, The Seagull. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday, March 31–April 2, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 3. All performances will be in Falk Theatre, located at 428 W. Kennedy Blvd.
The Seagull tells the story of an ensemble of late 19th century writers, actors, landowners and workers bound together by blood, friendship and a chain of romantic love. As they enjoy the beauty of a country estate, their lives unfurl into a string of joyous expectations, impetuous actions and broken dreams.
“I love The Seagull for numerous reasons,” said Robert Gonzalez, associate professor of Speech, Theatre and Dance, who is directing the play. “The subject matter, the love chain that binds the characters together and the wisdom it portrays through the story. I also feel this play offers substantial opportunity for serious work for our students.”
The production features a cast of 13 student actors, who Gonzalez calls “highly intelligent, talented, dedicated, enthusiastic and respectful.”
“I love my cast immensely,” he said. “I see them a minimum of five nights per week for four hours at a time, and I revel in every minute of their company. I couldn’t ask for a better group with which to make theatrical art.”
Admission is free for UT students, faculty and staff with valid UT identification. General admission tickets are $10, senior citizens and non-UT students may purchase tickets for $5.
