Orchestral Strings, Harp and Classical Guitar
At The University of Tampa, students can study violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp and classical guitar. UT students work closely with professional artist associate faculty, many of whom are active performers with The Florida Orchestra. Students perform for master classes at UT with guest artists, attend performances at the Straz Center for Performing Arts (adjacent to UT) and benefit from a vibrant arts community in the Tampa Bay area.
Classical Guitar Ensemble
The UT Classical Guitar Ensemble is the primary performance group for classical guitar students at UT. Students learn performance skills in an ensemble setting, while playing standard repertoire and transcriptions.
String Ensembles and Chamber Orchestra
Orchestral string players benefit from an active string chamber music program at UT, inspired by our ensemble in residence, the Trio de Minaret. Students develop musical leadership skills while playing challenging repertoire with their peers. In the Chamber Orchestra, students develop their skills as ensemble players.
Symphony Orchestra
The UT Symphony Orchestra is open to both students and community musicians. The orchestra typically performs twice each semester. The repertoire consists of major works, concertos, recently composed music and popular literature for orchestra. Chair placement auditions are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Summer Camps at UT
UT Summer Chamber Music Workshop for Middle and High School Students: The UT Chamber Music Workshop is an intensive music workshop for students of string instruments and piano, entering grades 7 to 12 in the fall. It is directed by the Trio de Minaret, an artist-in residence piano trio at The University of Tampa.
