University of Tampa Author Honored with Florida Book Award

Don Morrill, associate dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies at The University of Tampa and Dana professor of English, received the silver medal for poetry in the 2015 Florida Book Awards for his volume of poetry, Awaiting Your Impossibilities (Anhinga Press).Morrill, who has taught at UT for 29 years, is the author of four books of nonfiction, Impetuous Sleeper, The Untouched Minutes, Sounding for Cool and A Stranger’s Neighborhood. He is also the author of three volumes of poetry.In a review, Marci Calabretta said that Awaiting Your Impossibilities “is a highly satisfying read that will leave you dazzled and breathless, stumbling into the light as one who has crossed entire deserts while dreaming of dry wells and oases.”Coordinated by the Florida State University Libraries, the Florida Book Awards were established in 2006 to celebrate the best Florida literature. Authors must be full-time Florida residents, except in the Florida nonfiction and visual arts categories, where the subject matter must focus on Florida.The awards will be presented April 7 in Tallahassee.
