Declare Your Pre-Professional Interest in Law

Please indicate your pre-professional path by filling out our  pre-professional interest form. While pre-law is not a major, declaring your interest will allow us to send you specific information on your intended field.

Majors

In accordance with guidelines recommended by the Association of American Law Schools, the University has not established a specialized “pre-law” major, but rather, encourages prospective law students to undertake a course of study that develops “comprehension and expression in words, critical understanding of the human institutions with which the law deals and creative power in thinking.”

Various undergraduate majors offer appropriate preparation for law school education. The most frequently selected majors of successful pre-law students at the University are:

The  Law, Justice and Advocacy minor is an interdisciplinary program designed to improve critical thinking, communication, writing and advocacy skills. These skills are beneficial to most careers and professions, but particularly valuable for students interested in attending law school or entering other law-related careers. Recent graduates have attended nationally renowned law schools across the nation.

The University provides designated faculty pre-law advisors who are familiar with law school admissions requirements, application procedures and curricula. It also sponsors pre-law forums with attorneys as guest speakers, internships in law and judicial offices, campus visits by law school representatives, and student visits to law schools to assist undergraduates in planning.

Megan Frain

"The history major and the law, justice and advocacy minor have allowed me to feel both confident and prepared for this next step in my education. Studying history allows students to understand how laws have evolved in response to the times. I’ve also learned to research efficiently, which is essential for law. The minor’s Legal Research and Writing class is preparing me to read cases and analyze information quickly."
