Don’t miss The University of Tampa’s popular Spring Dance Concert, which will be performed on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 14–15, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 and 8 p.m. All performances will be in UT’s Falk Theatre, 428 W. Kennedy Blvd., and are free and open to the public.
“The Spring Dance Concert is always a fulfilling artistic experience for both the students and the audience,” said Susannah LeMarquand, assistant professor of dance and director of the UT dance program. “The depth of work that is created by all of the choreographers on the program will bring out a range of emotions from the audience.”
The annual concert features choreography by UT faculty and local, regional and international guest artists, with performances by UT students. Dance styles will range from contemporary to musical theatre to tap, and themes will cover diverse issues, from the struggle of coping with illness to the strength of the human spirit, along with some musical theatre numbers.
"Oftentimes the students are able to collaborate on each choreographer’s artistic process, which gives them a new sense of ownership to their movement. It makes each piece all the more engaging to watch,” said LeMarquand.
A number of students will also perform in a piece choreographed by Los Angeles–based artist Amanda Kay White, who worked closely with the dance program. Altogether, more than 50 students will participate in the collaborations this semester.
