UT Writers at the University Series Welcomes Cambodian-American Poet Peuo Tuy for a Reading Feb. 5

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, The University of Tampa will host a reading with spoken word poet and fiction writer Peuo Tuy as part of the Writers at the University series. The reading begins at 7 p.m. in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery and is free and open to the public.

A Cambodian-American, Tuy’s poetry collection, Khmer Girl, is inspired by the traumas of her life, including her family escaping the killing fields of their native country and facing the injustice of life as an immigrant in the United States. Her poetry, written and spoken, educates audiences about both the history and beauties of her Khmer heritage, as well as the effects Khmer culture had on her self-esteem as a girl and woman.

Tuy conducts writing and self-empowerment workshops that focus on peace, compassion and overcoming adversity in difficult times for people of all ages. She is currently working on storybooks for children and a young adult fiction novel.
