UT Damron Concert Artist Series Continues March 10 With a Celebration of Sergei Rachmaninoff

On Sunday, March 10, The University of Tampa will celebrate the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff at the next performance in the Damron Concert Artist Series. The concert, which features guest cellist Emilio Colón performing with UT music faculty Hein Jung, soprano, and Grigorios Zamparas, piano, begins at 2 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public.
The program will include selections of Rachmaninoff’s music for voice and piano as well as his most famous chamber pieces.
Colón is a highly sought-after solo cellist, chamber musician, conductor, composer and pedagogue at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. In 2017, he was named “Artist of the Year” by the New York Classical Music Society. As the founder and artistic director of the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, Colón provides artistic experiences to underserved communities in Puerto Rico.
Jung, associate professor of music, specializes in opera, oratorio and recital. She has performed throughout the U.S. as well as internationally in Seoul, South Korea, Canada and Spain. Jung was selected as fellow in two prestigious programs: Tanglewood and the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program, and has performed with the Madison Opera, the Bel Canto Chorus, the Racine-Kenosha Symphony and the Milwaukee Symphony.
Zamparas is an associate professor of music and director of piano studies at UT. He is an active concert pianist and performs both as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles. He has given master classes around the world.
The concert is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors will open 30 minutes before the performance. Parking is available on campus.
