The University of Tampa’s Chamber Singers and Camerata will perform its final concert of the year on Saturday, May 4. The concert will be held on campus at 7:30 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature a variety of challenging choral music, directed by Ryan Hebert, associate professor of music, director of choral studies and University organist.
Hebert said the spring choral concert is always his favorite concert of the year, because it’s a culmination of two semester’s worth of work. “Throughout the year the choir learns techniques of blend, intonation and intricate music-making through challenging choral repertoire of great variety,” he said. “This is sure to be a concert that people will not want to miss.”
Camerata, UT’s select women’s ensemble, will present sacred and secular music, including an arrangement of a Shaker tune, “Simple Gifts,” by Bob Chilcott; a cappella setting of “If ye Love me” by Canadian composer, Eleanor Daley; and a Venezuelan love song called “Te Quiero,” among others.
The Chamber Singers, UT’s select mixed choir, will present an extended work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart called “Te Deum,” a famously challenging a cappella piece by Eric Whitacre called “Sleep,” a piece by Gabriel Fauré, a French motet with piano accompaniment called “Cantique de Jean Racine,” and a few other pieces.
