Eric Newman, president of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company, will receive the Tampa Bay Ethics Award from the Center for Ethics at The University of Tampa at a breakfast and ceremony on Friday, Nov. 15.

The event — the 29 ^th Annual Business Ethics Breakfast — is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Vaughn Center Crescent Club on the UT campus at 401 W. Kennedy Blvd. The event is free for UT students, faculty and staff. Individual tickets are $25 per person, a table of eight is $150 and corporate sponsorships are available for $750 or $1,500. The Tampa Bay Ethics Award celebrates integrity, virtue and character by recognizing outstanding individuals in business, professional services or government who exemplify moral qualities and the highest standards in their daily activities.

J.C. Newman Cigar Company is America’s oldest family-owned premium cigar maker and rolls its El Reloj, Factory Throwouts and Trader Jacks cigars by hand-operated, vintage cigar machines at its historic cigar factory in Ybor City. Newman co-founded the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that built and operates a primary school, high school and health clinic, as well as a health and hygiene outreach program in one of the most impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic. In recognition of his service to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, the Child Abuse Council, the Florida Holocaust Museum, the United Way and the City of Tampa Library Board, Newman was named (along with his brother) Humanitarian of the Year by the Judeo-Christian Health Clinic and was selected to carry the Olympic torch.

Former winners of this award include former Florida governor Bob Martinez, Freddie Solomon, former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, John Sykes, James Ferman Jr., Richard Gonzmart and Sam Ellison.
