Author to Discuss Networking and Relationship Building at UT March 14

Author and media personality Kelly Hoey will discuss networking and relationship building in the digital age during a presentation at The University of Tampa on Tuesday, March 14.

Hoey will offer a new approach to networking as more than just schmoozing and LinkedIn. The presentation will provide innovative insights into strategies to help form genuine relationships and how to use your network to accomplish any goal.

The presentation will be held from 4:30–6:30 p.m. in the Vaughn Center Crescent Club.

Hoey’s talk is part of the series Today’s Entrepreneurial Women: A Series Exploring the Power of Women in Business, which is sponsored by UT’s John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center in the Sykes College of Business.

Hoey, author of Build Your Dream Network (TarcherPerigee, 2017), has been featured in Forbes (“1 of 5 Women Changing the World of VC/Entrepreneurship”) and Fast Company (“25 Smartest Women on Twitter”). She’s also appeared on CNBC’s Power Pitch, is an Inc.com columnist and tweets frequently (@jkhoey).

Hoey’s career started in corporate law before transitioning to the management side of Big Law. After that, she co-founded a startup accelerator, took on the CMO role with an emerging tech company and went on to become an author, influencer, investor and professional speaker.

In addition to her portfolio of angel investments (Levo League, Hullabalu, Smigin, CloudPeeps, flowthings.io), she is a limited partner in two funds (Laconia Capital Group and Lattice Ventures) and an advisor to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

In addition to these professional pursuits, Hoey is the chief tech ambassador for the New York City YWCA Girls Geek Club.

On Thursday, April 13, The University of Tampa Honors Program symposia series will welcome Juan Roberto Melendez, who will share his experience of being wrongly convicted and spending almost 18 years on Florida’s death row. His talk, titled “Presumed Guilty: Injustice, Survival and Hope on Death Row,” begins at 4 p.m. in the Crescent Club on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center and is free and open to the public.

During freshmen orientation in the fall, Michael Joyce ’20met a lot of new friends but found it a pain to track down each person’s manysocial media handles. So Joyce, along with Andrew Bernstein ’20, created amobile application they call Bubble.

Launching at UT’s Party in the Park on April 7, the Bubbleapp is a tool that allows users to connect to their friends’ social mediaaccounts seamlessly. In addition, users can create groups, called bubbles, andwhen those groups of people go out to a restaurant together, they can receiveup to 25 percent off their meal at places like Tampa Pizza Company and DailyEats.
