Writers at the University Series Kicks off Oct. 1 with Matt Batt
The University of Tampa will welcome author Matt Batt on Tuesday, Oct. 1, to open the 2013-2014 Writers at the University series. The reading will be held at 7 p.m. in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery on campus and is free and open to the public.

author Matt Batt on Tuesday, Oct. 1, to open the 2013-2014 Writers at the
University series. The reading will be held at 7 p.m. in the Scarfone/Hartley
Gallery on campus and is free and open to the public.
Batt is the
author of Sugarhouse: Turning the Neighborhood Crack House into Our Home
Sweet Home, which follows Batt and his young wife through the task of
renovating a crack house into their new home. Acclaimed author Steve Almond
described the book as “an uproariously funny and deeply affecting account of
home ownership and its discontents."
His fiction, creative nonfiction
and reviews have appeared in Tin House, The Huffington Post,
Mid-American Review, Another Chicago Magazine and numerous
other journals and anthologies. Batt is an assistant professor of English and
creative writing at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, where he
lives with his wife and son.
The event is co-sponsored by Sigma Tau
Delta and NEON Magazine. Future readings in the Writers at the University
