Winner of TV’s “Survivor” to Speak at UT Campus
Ethan Zohn is best known as the winner of the third season of Survivor.
But he is also known for what he did with his winnings from the popular
reality TV show.
Zohn, who used his Survivor winnings to start the charitable organization known as Grassroots Soccer, will speak to UT students and others Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Fletcher Lounge on the UT campus.
Zohn has played soccer professionally for teams in both the U.S. and Zimbabwe. He founded Grassroots Soccer in order to help educate African children about HIV/AIDS as well as raise worldwide awareness of the African AIDS epidemic. His program, titled “Character: The Ultimate Survival Tool,” examines how character is built and why it is important to develop, nurture and refine one’s character.
His visit to the UT campus is sponsored by the Alpha Chi Omega sorority as part of a weeklong series of dubbed “The Big Give,” which seeks to raise awareness of such issues as domestic violence, world AIDS, breast cancer and heart disease.
“We wanted to give back to the campus with the money we raised,” said Sarah Bernstein, president of Alpha Chi Omega at UT. “We felt that what Ethan has done to raise awareness of AIDS in Africa is a good model for what we are trying to do. We took all of our earnings from the Super Bowl and put it toward bringing Ethan to campus in the hopes of bettering the University community.”
The event is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited.
