UT's Volunteer Center Wins Statewide Award for Civic Engagement

The University of Tampa’s PEACE Volunteer Center has been named the Graham-Frey Civic Award Winner by the Florida Campus Compact (FL/CC).

The Graham-Frey Civic Award was named in recognition of the extraordinary civic contributions made by U.S. Senator Bob Graham and Congressman Lou Frey. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of civic learning and engagement in sustaining our participatory democracy.

The PEACE (People Exploring Active Community Experiences) Volunteer Center is the main volunteer organization at UT. It connects UT students, faculty and staff with numerous service organizations in the Tampa Bay area, and provides students with opportunities for service-learning through projects that benefit the community.

According to the FL/CC, the award winners are “the folks who are in the trenches, forging sustainable campus-community partnerships that enhance the collegiate experience and help our students become stronger and more active citizens.”

The awards winners will be recognized at the Florida Campus Compact Awards Gala and Luncheon on Oct. 15 in Miami. Speakers at the gala will be First Lady Michelle Obama and State University System Chancellor Frank T. Brogan
