UT’s Sykes Hall of Fame Speaker Series Continues March 3

On Thursday, March 3, The University of Tampa will welcome John W. Thompson, chairman of the board, Microsoft Corp. and CEO of Virtual Instruments, and Bob Dutkowsky, CEO of Tech Data Corp., as part of the Sykes Hall of Fame Business Speaker Series event. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in Falk Theatre, 428 W. Kennedy Blvd., with networking and refreshments. The presentation, Shaping the Future of Tech … What Makes Tech Tick?, begins at 6 p.m.

Thompson and Dutkowsky believe success in the tech world takes more than smarts; it takes vision, tenacity and being able to create new opportunities. At the presentation they will share their experience and insights about identifying trends and opportunities in the global technology industry.

Before joining Virtual Instruments, Thompson was chairman of the board and CEO of Symantec Corp. and held a number of senior leadership roles at IBM Corp. He is an active investor in and advisor to early stage technology companies, serving in this role with PernixData, Liquid Robotics, ReviverMX and Illumio. Thompson is also chairman of the board of Microsoft, the world’s largest software company.

Dutkowsky joined Tech Data Corp. in 2006 and oversees all aspects of the company’s extensive worldwide IT distribution operations. He has more than 30 years of experience in the information technology industry, including senior executive positions in sales, marketing and channel distribution with leading manufacturers and software publishers IBM, EMC and J.D. Edwards.
