On Tuesday, Oct. 4, The University of Tampa will welcome James R. Burkhart, president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, as part of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series. The presentation, titled
Health Care Strategies: The Changing Landscape, begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Trustees Board Room on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center, and is free and open to the public.
Burkhart was named president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in 2013. TGH is a major tertiary level teaching facility affiliated with the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine.
Since arriving at TGH, Burkhart has focused on developing a new strategic plan, strengthening the hospital’s ties with its academic partner, the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, and creating innovative health care partnerships in the community. He was named USF Health Morsani College of Medicine’s senior associate dean for clinical and hospital affairs in 2014.
Prior to taking the helm at TGH, Burkhart served as president and CEO of University of Florida Health Jacksonville Medical Center, a private, not-for-profit institution that serves as a safety net hospital for Florida’s underinsured and uninsured patient populations.
The TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series is dedicated to bringing outstanding leaders from the private, government and nonprofit sectors to campus to discuss business topics and corporate strategies with students and members of the community.
The University of Tampa is located at 401 W. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. Please RSVP by Monday, Oct. 3, at
