UT to Hold Presentation and Panel on Sexual Harassment in Academia

Sexual harassment in academia has come to the forefront in the past year with high-profile incidents at University of Chicago, California Institute of Technology and University of California, Berkeley.

In light of these recent events, and to help University of Tampa community members be informed about sexual harassment, identify sexual harassment and know what to do as a victim or witness of sexual harassment, UT is hosting a forum on sexual harassment.

The forum, which is intended for the UT community but media is welcome to attend, will be held on Monday, March 21, at 8 p.m. in the Vaughn Center on campus. The forum will include a presentation by Jessica Kirkpatrick, a Ph.D. astrophysicist who was one of the complainants in the case at UC Berkeley.

The forum will also feature a panel discussion that will include:

  • Kirkpatrick;
  • Katharine Cole, UT associate provost and dean of academic services;
  • Timothy Harding, UT associate dean of career development and engagement;
  • Sabrina Griffith, UT director of residential communities;
  • Brandon Williams, UT student and member of UT’s chapter of the One Student organization.

A reception will follow the panel discussion.

The event organizing committee is compromised of UT faculty, administrators and students and is sponsored by UT.
