On Friday, Aug. 23, University of Tampa students will start the academic year off by giving back to the Tampa Bay community during the University’s annual day of service, Into the Streets. The event is scheduled from 1–5:30 p.m., and volunteers will gather in Falk Theatre before loading into buses to volunteer at one of several sites in the community.

“Into The Streets is a great example of the impact our UT campus can have on the Tampa Bay community,” said Emily Dorso ’14, student coordinator for the PEACE Volunteer Center, which organizes the event. “It only takes a few hours and a group of dedicated students to make a difference in the world, and UT students are always enthusiastic to be a part of that change.”

Into the Streets has become a UT tradition and is open to all students, faculty and staff. Organizers are expecting around 300 participants who will work at the following local organizations:
  • Metropolitan Ministries — Sorting food and clothing donations
  • Academy Prep — Working in the garden and reading to youth
  • Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful — Cleaning up the coastline
  • Feeding America — Sorting and packing food donations
  • Pepin Academy — Working with special needs children
  • Habitat for Humanity — Working at ReStore
  • Tampa Heights Community Garden — Helping with new expansion
