UT Student Newspaper Named a Finalist in National Competition
The University of Tampa’s student newspaper, The Minaret, has been
named a finalist in the 2009 Associated Collegiate Press Newspaper
Pacemaker contest.
The Minaret is one of 25 student newspaper finalists for the “Four-year non-daily” category. Other nominees include the student newspapers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Vanderbilt University, University of Chicago and University of Miami.
This year’s contest is judged by the Poynter Institute, and entries were judged based on the following criteria:

- Coverage and content.
- Quality of writing and reporting.
- Leadership on the opinion page.
- Evidence of in-depth reporting.
- Layout and design.
- Photography, art and graphics
Winners will be announced at the 88th Annual ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in Austin, TX, in October. Associated Collegiate Press is the oldest and largest national membership organization for college student journalists.
