UT Senior Awarded Fulbright Fellowship to Continue His Studies in Spain, New York
Carlos J. Salinas Zárate, a senior at The University of Tampa, has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to continue his studies in Spain and New York City after graduation. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government.
A senior from Miami, Florida, Salinas Zárate is an international business and economics major and is set to graduate this August.
He will begin his graduate studies at the Instituto de Empresa (IE) in Madrid in October, working toward a master’s degree in business and economic digital communication. After finishing that program, he will intern with UNESCO headquarters in Paris for six months. He will then continue his graduate studies at Columbia University in New York City, working toward a second master’s degree in public administration.
The particular grant Salinas Zárate applied for is awarded to only one student in the U.S. each year and will cover all his expenses during his studies. “I am thrilled I got this opportunity. I cannot believe I was selected for such an amazing and promising program among excellent applicants,” said Salinas Zárate.
“Our office is working to make students more aware of the Fulbright Program and offers one-on-one assistance to students to help them navigate the application process,” said Marca Bear, associate dean of the Office of International Programs.
Salinas Zárate is the second UT student in two years to receive a Fulbright Fellowship. Bethany Kreider ’11 is currently in Indonesia on a Fulbright grant, working with elementary school children.
“The Office of International Programs has nurtured and supported these students in applying for Fulbrights, and here's another indication of success from those efforts,” said Janet McNew, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We have very impressive students, so it's great when we can so effectively support their ambitions.”
