UT Offers New Option for Executive Leadership Training

Executives and leaders in the community who are preparing for a more senior leadership role can take advantage of new one-day, open enrollment leadership courses offered by The University of Tampa’s TECO Center for Leadership (CFL). Registration is now open, and the first program is offered on Thursday, Oct. 15. Dr. Frank Ghannadian, the director for the CFL and dean of UT’s John H. Sykes College of Business, explained that these courses were started to meet the demand in the marketplace for an executive education series. "Currently no one in the Tampa Bay area offers these type of quality leadership development programs for executives," Ghannadian said. All programs contain both experiential learning and group interaction, and participants will be able to put theoretical concepts into practice via case studies and other interactive learning methods. “These courses are taught by professors and practitioners with the latest information on industry trends and cutting-edge theory,” said Mike Weeks, senior associate director of the CFL. “UT offers an academic atmosphere not found in corporate training classes, and our classes are very small and interactive.” Courses offered this fall include:

  •  Thinking Strategically, Thursday, Oct. 15
  •  Power, Influence and Politics in Organizations, Friday, Oct. 16
  •  Financial Statements for Managers, Tuesday, Oct. 27
  •  Building Company Value, Monday, Nov. 2
  •  Leading Change, on Wednesday, Nov. 4
According to Weeks, in these seminars students will:
  • Discover proven models and best practices for leading work teams and entire organizations through successful and lasting change efforts;
  • Gain exposure to the state-of-the-art techniques for identifying strategic opportunities in the industry and for assessing the competencies of your company;
  • Learn how economic profit and free cash flow models can be used to both value operations and as guides to value-building strategies;
  • Gain a deeper exposure to financial statements and ratio analysis for those who would like to enhance their ability to manage for value;
  • Develop an understanding of how the cash flows statement springs from enterprise activity in the income statement and balance sheet;
  • Journey through exploration and reflection as ideas on power and politics from individual and organizational levels are presented.
