The Sykes College of Business and UT’s nursing program were also named as top undergraduate programs, which are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty members at peer institutions. The business program rose 31 spots this year, and the nursing program rose 73 spots. UT was also, for the first time, ranked for its undergraduate psychology program. All of these rankings are based on a peer assessment survey collected during the spring and summer of 2023.

UT was named in four lists for regional universities in the South, including 1) Best Value Schools; 2) Most Innovative Schools; 3) Top Performers on Social Mobility; and 4) Best Colleges for Veterans.

For the “Best Value Schools,” rankings were based on schools’ academic quality, the percentage of students receiving need-based scholarships, the percentage of students receiving need-based aid who also receive grants or scholarships, and the school’s discount rate.

Schools named “Top Performers on Social Mobility” are ones that enrolled and graduated students who received federal Pell Grants.

Universities were ranked on a peer assessment survey for the “Most Innovative Schools” ranking.

The “Best Colleges for Veterans” list names schools that offer benefits that can make pursuing a college education more affordable for veterans and active-duty service members. These include schools being certified for the GI Bill and schools that participate in the Yellow Ribbon program.

The “Best Colleges” guidebook can be ordered in the U.S. News Store. It will ship in early October.
