UT Hosts 2008 SSC Basketball Tournament
The Spartan basketball teams are preparing to grab a conference
championship this weekend as The University of Tampa hosts the 2008
Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
The men’s and women’s teams both earned seeds in Saturday’s Semifinals with a pair of Tuesday night victories. The third-ranked men’s team is set to take on seventh-ranked St. Leo University at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at UT’s Bob Martinez Sports Center. The No. 2- women’s team will play against No. 3 Rollins at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday’s semifinals also include a match between the men’s teams from Florida Southern College and Lynn University at noon and women’s teams from Nova Southeastern University and Barry University at 5 p.m.
Winners of each of the respective men’s and women’s matches will go on to compete in Sunday’s championships, which will be televised live on FSN Florida. The men’s match is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the women will compete at 3:30 p.m.
A tournament Fan Fest, featuring vendors, activities, food and entertainment, will also take place at the Martinez Sports Center throughout the tournament. Admission to the Fan Fest is free to all tournament attendees.
Single-day tickets for the tournament are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.
The tournament is sponsored by Wendy’s.
