UT Graduate Students Win Regional Case Study Competition for Third Year

For the third year in a row, a University of Tampa team of master’s degree students won the Tampa Bay ACG (Association for Corporate Growth) Cup competition at the University Club in downtown Tampa.

The team, which consisted of Denae Heath MBA '15, Michael Howard MBA '15 M.S. '15, Tatenda Uta M.S. '15 and Kelli Wiedinger MBA '15, finished ahead of teams from Rollins College, University of South Florida and University of Florida. The team shared in over $9,000 in prize money provided by major firms associated with ACG.

The ACG Cup is a case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs across the country real world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advisory and private equity. Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present valuation, capital markets and merger and acquisition (M&A) strategic advice to a panel of seasoned M&A professionals from within the ACG community.

According to Dan Verreault, team advisor and associate professor of accounting, the judges noted the incredible skill in presentation, professionalism and command over the technical details of the case exhibited by the UT team. The judges also complimented the team’s “focus and insights on the strategic issues that were so important in this year’s case.”

The ACG Cup is carried out through a series of intra-school and regional competitions, with regional winners awarded the prestigious ACG Cup for display at the school and cash awards.

The public accounting and consulting firm Crowe Horwath LLP was the principal sponsor. ACG, the event sponsor, is the preeminent worldwide professional association of middle market financial advisors and dealmakers.
