The University of Tampa will present a “choral collage” on Friday, Oct. 9, when four of the University’s five choirs come together to perform. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public.
There will be a second performance on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m.
According to Ryan Hebert, director of choral studies, the music and variety of choirs forms an aural and visual collage and represents music of all ethnicities, cultures, languages and histories.
“The concert is a way to celebrate diversity and singing,” said Hebert, who will conduct along with fellow music faculty member Rodney Shores. “I look forward to this concert each year. It comes early, but it’s a great way for us to launch into the new school year.”
The program will feature nearly 100 students (from all academic disciplines) and a varied array of music. The Men’s Glee Club will present three different folk songs and a piece by J.S. Bach. The Women’s Glee Club will sing three contemporary pieces. The Camerata Singers will perform a Swedish folk song, an Ave Maria by Hungarian composer and ethnomusicologist Zoltan Kodaly, and a spiritual, “Goin Up a Yonder.” The Chamber Singers will perform a work by Hasee, a contemporary of Mozart; a British folk song, “O Danny Boy”; a setting of Psalm 150 by Howard Hansen; and an American gospel favorite, “True Light” by Keith Hampton.
