Spinal deformities in captive sand tiger sharks will be the topic of conversation when Dan Huber, UT associate professor of biology, speaks at The Florida Aquarium on Nov. 6.
Huber’s talk is part of the aquarium’s Evening Tide Talks, sponsored by Wells Fargo. Huber’s presentation begins at 6:15 p.m., but there is a complimentary reception at 5:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Huber and colleagues from The Florida Aquarium have focused their attention on causes of spinal deformity in captive sand tiger sharks to improve husbandry practices and reduce pressure on wild populations for exhibit specimens.
Another of Huber’s research interests — the feeding biomechanics of white sharks — was recently listed in
Discover magazine’s Top 100 Science Stories of the Year.
