University of Tampa baseball Head Coach Joe Urso was honored May 14 for
the third straight year as the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the
Year.
It is the fifth time in his career that Urso has taken the league’s highest coaching distinction.
“This is the toughest conference in the nation and it is an honor to receive this award,” Urso said.
A former Spartan All-American, Urso is in his eighth season as head
coach of the UT baseball team, having assembled a record of 318-98 that
includes two back-to-back national championships in the last two years.
Urso’s latest coaching distinction comes as the team enters
the NCAA South Regional with hopes of going on to pursue a third
straight national championship.
“I am extremely proud of
this team and what they have accomplished to this point,” Urso said.
“Obviously our goal is to win another national championship. This is a
great group and hopefully we can finish the season strong.”
