The Minaret Online Named Best Among Small Schools

The Minaret Online

The University of Tampa’s online student newspaper, The Minaret Online, was named the country’s best small school Web site at the Associated Collegiate Press National College Journalism Convention in Phoenix, AZ, Feb. 25-28.

The Minaret Online is edited by Alex Vera. The Web sites from Southwestern University and Suffolk University rounded out second and third.

The print version, The Minaret, was named the country’s third best four-year weekly newspaper. It is edited by Charlie Hambos. The newspapers from California State University, Chico; and Wake Forest University were named the best and second best in the country, respectively.

Vera, Hambos and Mel Steiner, assistant editor and layout/design editor, also led breakout session at the convention on topics related to college and university newspaper reporting.

Associated Collegiate Press is the oldest and largest national membership organization for college student journalists.
