The University of Tampa will welcome the Tekalli Duo on Monday, Nov. 11, for a master class and performance. The master class will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m. Both events will be held in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and are free and open to the public.
The Tekalli Duo is comprised of brother and sister team Suliman Tekalli, violin, and Jamila Tekalli, piano. The two have performed all over the world, including New York City’s WMP Recital Hall, pre-revolutionary Libya and, in 2012, the Timucua White House in Orlando, FL. Their residency at UT is presented in collaboration with the Orlando Accidental Music Festival.
The duo will give master classes to UT violin and piano students focusing on chamber music selections. The public and media are invited to observe the master class.
For their evening performance, the Tekalli Duo will perform a piece they commissioned from pianist and composer Michael Brown, which they funded through a Kickstarter campaign. The duo will also perform
Théme et Variations by Olivier Messiaen and
Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 70 by Nikolai Kapustin.
