The University of Tampa Women’s Glee Club, Men’s Glee Club and Chamber Singers will perform a variety of music — ranging from Mozart to Billy Joel — at their Fall Choral Concert on Friday, Oct. 5. Part of the University’s Family Weekend, the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Fletcher Lounge on the first floor of Plant Hall on campus.
The Women’s Glee Club will sing “What Sweeter Music” by Eleanor Daley and “I Thank You God” by Gwyneth Walker. Men’s Glee will sing four pieces, including two folk songs, a “Gloria” by Dan Davison and “For the Longest Time” by Bill Joel. The Chamber Singers will perform works by Mozart, Joseph Rheinberger, Joel Martinson and conclude with “Cindy,” a popular American folk song incorporating square dancing and percussion.
“Not only are the works challenging, but everyone who attends the fall choral concert will find something they like,” said Ryan Hebert, director of choral studies. “I hope the concert appeals to as many people as possible, and I couldn’t be more proud of the students.”
More than 100 students from all academic disciplines participate in the choral program at UT.
"The real power behind choral music is bringing together many voices to sing as one,” said Alex Crenshaw, a senior music education major and member of the Chamber Singers. “It’s a statement about unity and the joys and sorrows of human beings.”
The concert, sponsored by The University of Tampa Department of Music, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Hebert at (813) 257-3344 or
