St. Petersburg Exhibit Showcases UT Art Faculty
Accomplice
Several University of Tampa faculty members are having their artwork featured in an exhibition titled Accomplice, which opened May 2 at C. Emerson Fine Arts in St. Petersburg.
The exhibit brings together a selection of mixed media pieces by 13 different artists, all who are affiliated with UT.
“The purpose is to see what people can do by interaction,” said Santiago Echeverry, assistant professor of art, one of the artists featured in the exhibit.
While each of the featured pieces of artwork is the creation of the individual artist, the exhibit is billed as showcasing the influence that friends and coworkers have on each other.
“You can see that there are certain patterns in the works,” Echeverry said.
Lori Johns, a graduate of the UT Class of 2005, manages the C. Emerson Fine Arts Gallery where the exhibit is taking place. The exhibit is the second time in as many years that the group of UT faculty has been featured at the gallery.
Other faculty members showing their work at the gallery are Dr. Catherine Chastain-Elliot, associate professor of art history; Kendra Frorup and Doug Sutherland, both assistant professors of art.
UT alumni Roger Chamieh, Carl Cowden III and Michael Massaro as well as adjunct instructors Yoko Nogami, Rebecca Skelton, Jeff Whipple and Britzel Vasquez are also exhibiting their work.
The exhibit, which runs through May 31, includes digital media, drawings, paintings, printmaking and sculpture.
