Piano and Organ Concert to Help Feed Those in Need March 25

Music to End Hunger, a piano and organ concert benefitting Faith Café, will be held at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values at The University of Tampa on Sunday, March 25, at 5 p.m.

The concert will feature performances by Haig Mardirosian, professor of music and dean of the College of Arts and Letters, and Grigorios Zamparas, assistant professor of music. Selections include pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Gustav Merkel, Franz Liszt and Calvin Hampton, with a surprise finale.

The concert is a fundraiser for Faith Café, which provides food to those who may be homeless, in financial straits or otherwise in need of a hot meal. Faith Café was founded by the South Tampa Ecumenical Ministries (STEM), a collaboration of seven south Tampa churches, together with Metropolitan Ministries. The property the café currently operates out of is up for sale, so the group is raising funds to construct a permanent home for the program.

“Faith Café offers a safe place to step off the streets and come in for lunch six days a week,” said Mary Jane Schenck, professor of English, who serves on the board of directors of STEM and volunteers at Faith Café. “It is a vital service for many people who are overwhelmed by circumstances beyond their control.”

UT students regularly volunteer at the Faith Café, and the concert is sponsored by UT’s PEACE Volunteer Center.

Tickets are $20 (suggested donation) for adults, $10 (suggested donation) for students and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Parking is available in the Thomas Parking Garage at the corner of North Boulevard and North B Street.
