The University of Tampa will welcome pianist Solon Pierce on Sunday, Oct. 18, for a guest artist concert. The performance, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Grand Salon, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
The program will open with
Ich ruf’ zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ, originally composed by J.S. Bach and transcribed for piano by Ferruccio Busoni. The program also includes several pieces by Ramón Delgado Palacios and selections from
Preludes, Op. 11 by Alexander Scriabin. Pierce will also perform works by Gunnar Johansen, Justin Henry Rubin, Darius Milhaud and Percy Granger.
Born in Plymouth, WI, Pierce studied music at Oberlin College and The Julliard School and completed doctoral work at the University of Minnesota. Pierce has performed frequently in his native Wisconsin, including appearances with Festival City Symphony of Milwaukee and the Madison Symphony.
Pierce has performed extensively as a soloist and collaborative artist nationally and internationally at many of the most elite venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, the British Music Information Centre in London, Magdalen College and Maison Francaise at Oxford University, the Fondation Danoise in Paris, the Vendsyssel Festival and Skagens Museum in Jutland (Denmark), and the Estate Whim in St. Croix (U.S. Virgin Islands).
