The University of Tampa will welcome pianist Solon Pierce on Sunday, Oct. 13, for a guest artist concert. The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Grand Salon.
Pierce has performed as a soloist and collaborative artist nationally and internationally at many of the most elite venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Pabst Theater, the British Music Information Centre, Magdalen College, Maison Francaise in Oxford and the Fondation Danoise in Paris. He has also performed in concert with the Festival City Symphony of Milwaukee and the Madison Symphony.
The program will include works by pianist and composer Gunnar Johansen, who Pierce claims as one of his biggest influences. In 1999, Pierce received a grant from Oberlin College to research Johansen’s early European years and record Johansen’s Sonata No. 23 based on Goethe’s poem “Trilogie der Leidenschaft” for Radio Denmark in Copenhagen.
He will also perform pieces by Franz Schubert, Ramón Delgado Palacios, Justin Rubin, Bix Beiderbecke, Scott Joplin and George Gershwin.
