Sophia Akhuemokhan, senior lecturer and coordinator of the part-time program in the Department of English and Literature at the University of Benin, Nigeria, will give a talk on “Terrorism and Trauma in African Prose Narratives: The Nigerian Experience” on Wednesday, April 10, at UT.
The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 5 p.m. in the Plant Hall Music Room.
According to Akhuemokhan, terrorism and trauma have been subtle features of the Nigerian experience since the nation’s infancy. Her talk will show how Nigerian novelists trace the path to this demeanor with perception and candor, and how an examination of some of their works explains the present alarm and locates possible avenues to reconciliation.
