Richard Elliott, principal organist at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, will perform in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values on Sunday, March 2. The concert, which will be held at 2 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Elliott, who accompanies the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Maurice Duruflé, John Longhurst and Peter Warlock. Prior to his appointment as Tabernacle organist in 1991, Elliott was an assistant professor of organ at Brigham Young University. He is also a former assistant organist for Philadelphia’s famed Wanamaker Grand Court Organ.
The unreserved seating in the Sykes Chapel is limited, and doors will open 30 minutes before the performance. Parking is available on campus.
Elliott’s visit is part of the 2013-2014 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values. After Elliott’s March performance, the final concert will be held on April 6 and will include Haig Mardirosian, UT’s dean of the College of Arts and Letters, and Grigorios Zamparas, UT associate professor of music. They will perform indigenous works and transcriptions for organ and piano.
In addition to PNC Bank, the 2013-2014 Concert Artist Series is sponsored by the UT College of Arts and Letters and the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values.
