Echoing Air to Perform at UT Nov. 3

The 2013-2014 PNC Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values will continue Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. with a performance by Echoing Air, a dynamic ensemble specializing in the repertoire of the English baroque.

The program showcases the early music of England, with several selections from England’s most illustrious 17th century composer Henry Purcell (1659-1695) as well as pieces from Tobias Hume (1569-1645), Thomas Morley (1557-1602), John Dowland (1563-1626), Robert Jones (1577-1617), Thomas Campion (1567-1620) and John Scott (floruit circa 1600).

Echoing Air is comprised of Jeffrey Collier, recorder and baroque flute; Keith Collins, recorder and harp; Thomas Gerber, harpsichord; Christine Kyprianides, viola da gamba; Nathan Medley, countertenor; and Steven Rickard, countertenor and founder. Their performances have been praised as “full of life and joy” and “exciting, creative, dramatic and just plain fun.”

“Echoing Air brings to the campus and the PNC series the fresh and idiomatic sounds of early music performed by specialists with period-style instruments,” said Haig Mardirosian, dean of the UT College of Arts and Letters. “To hear these refreshingly charming and spontaneous sounds is to never want to hear music of the Baroque and Renaissance performed otherwise.”

The concert is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors open 30 minutes before the concert. Parking is available on campus.

The 2013-2014 PNC Concert Artist Series is underwritten by PNC Bank and the UT College of Arts and Letters. For more information, contact caldean@ut.edu or go to www.ut.edu/sykeschapel.
