Speaker Series Featuring Renowned Author Edwidge Danticat To Take Place Feb. 16

Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat will speak at The University of Tampa this spring as the inaugural event of the University’s distinguished speaker series. The event is set for Friday, Feb. 16, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Charlene A. Gordon Theater in the Ferman Center for the Arts.

Distinguished Speaker Series Featuring Renowned Author Edwidge Danticat To Take Place Feb. 16 Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat will speak at The University of Tampa this spring as the inaugural event of the University’s distinguished speaker series.

The evening will begin with Danticat reading from her 1994 novel, "Breath, Eyes, Memory," followed by a discussion and an audience Q&A session. Afterward, copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author. Hosted by UT’s Honor Program along with the Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau, the event is free and open to the public, but attendees must register beforehand on Eventbrite.

Danticat is the author of numerous acclaimed works, some of which include the 2013 novel "Claire of the Sea Light," a New York Times Notable Book; the 2007 family memoir "Brother, I’m Dying," a National Book Critics Circle Award winner and National Book Award finalist; and the 1996 short story collection "Krik? Krak!," also a National Book Award finalist. Danticat is also a winner of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature and recipient of a MacArthur “genius” grant, and has been published in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine and elsewhere.
