CEO of Citrus Bank Slated to Speak at UT Feb. 2

John M. Barrett ’87, MBA ’96, president and CEO of First Citrus Bank, will speak at The University of Tampa on Monday, Feb. 2. Barrett’s talk, part of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series, begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Sykes College of Business building, Room 134. The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required.

Barrett earned his undergraduate degree from UT by attending night classes and owned and managed a lawn maintenance business for several years while working full time at a prominent downtown Tampa law firm. At the age of 34, Barrett started Tampa-based First Citrus Bank with his colleagues on the board, and continues to serve the company as president and CEO today.

First Citrus is a quarter-billion dollar financial institution with a track record of performance throughout the Great Recession. To meet the often overlooked capital needs of small business owners on a broader scale, Barrett’s vision is to build a multibillion dollar world-class bank headquartered in Tampa Bay.

Barrett has been quoted or featured in national publications, such as The Wall Street Journal, Risk Management Association Journal and Bank Director Magazine. He was honored with the Esse Quam Videri and Outstanding MBA Alumnus awards from UT as well as Banker of the Year-State of Florida 2011 and President’s Horizon Award from the Florida Banker’s Association.

The TECO Center for Leadership Speaker Series is dedicated to bringing outstanding leaders from the private, government and nonprofit sectors to campus to discuss business topics and corporate strategies with students and members of the community.

Please RSVP at leadershipspeaker-fcb.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact McKala Mason, coordinator of centers and institutes, at mmason@ut.edu or (813) 257-3782.
