A book of poetry published by The University of Tampa Press has just
been awarded the Bronze Medal for Poetry from the Florida Book Awards.
The UT Press published Peter Meinke’s Lines from Neuchatel: The Thirty-fifth Anniversary Edition, in special paperback and hand-bound hardcover editions in 2009.
All
Florida Book Awards medalists will be acknowledged at a banquet hosted
by the Florida Library Association at its annual conference on April 8
in Orlando. Winning books and their authors are featured in the summer
issue of FORUM, the statewide magazine of the Florida Humanities Council.
Peter
Meinke is the author of seven books of poems in the prestigious Pitt
Poetry Series. In 2009 he was appointed the first Poet Laureate of St.
Petersburg.
The original edition of Lines from Neuchatel was published in St. Petersburg in 1974 as a limited-edition chapbook designed by Dr. Richard Mathews at Konglomerati Press.
Mathews,
now Dana Professor of English and director of the University of Tampa
Press, celebrated the 35th anniversary of the book as well as the
author’s appointment as first poet laureate of the City of St.
Petersburg with this new and expanded edition, with an afterword by the
poet, additional drawings by the poet’s wife, Jeanne Meinke, and the
addition of new poems.
