Career Specialties
Thomas Pittz conducts research at the nexus of strategy and entrepreneurship and is interested in exploring how firms build and perpetuate a culture of innovation. He maintains a particular focus on collaboration across market sectors, where diverse knowledge structures can coalesce to produce novel solutions and systemic change.
Professional and Community Activities
After nearly two decades of work in industry, including the launch of two entrepreneurial ventures, Pittz received his Ph.D. from New Mexico State University in 2015. He has focused his teaching and research in the areas of strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles on topics such as absorptive capacity in public-private partnerships, entrepreneurial boundary conditions in constrained marketplaces, risk sharing in strategic contracting and micro foundations of collective entrepreneurship.
His work has been published in scholarly outlets such as the Journal of Business Ethics, the Journal of Small Business Management, Small Business Economics, Studies in Higher Education and the International Journal of Project Management, to name a few. His new book, The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Risk and Decisions: Building Successful Early Stage Ventures, was published in early 2020 by Emerald Publishing, Ltd.
Pittz has also served as the executive director and senior vice president of the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE). He is an associate editor for Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy and sits on the board of directors for two Tampa-area corporations.
