Shirley Franks has nursing experience in both the acute and out-patient settings. Her foundation of nursing was in cardiology and critical care. She obtained a master’s in nursing and is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has experience in the advance practice role in the hospital, as well as the primary care setting. She is driven to influence future nursing leaders.
Franks is the UT faculty counselor for the nursing honor society Sigma Theta Tau, chair of the clinical evaluation committee, and member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Preventative Cardiovascular Nurses Association. She volunteers at Fishhawk Fellowship in children’s ministries.
In 2012 while attending UT's MSN program, Franks was chosen to participate in a UT Life student web feature, which documented life as a graduate nursing student at UT. Additionally, at Florida State University she was nominated "outstanding senior" candidate, cum laude graduate and inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of nursing.
