Career Specialties
Kelly Deister's main area of research is marine and riverine chemistry, focusing on the concentrations of inorganic elements and the processes that affect their distributions. This is accomplished through both field-based studies and laboratory-based experiments.Professional and Community Activities
Estuaries are highly complex ecosystems that act as the interface between freshwater and seawater. This salinity gradient has a strong influence on the chemistry of an estuary. Deister is currently studying the spatial and temporal distribution of trace metals and salinity in the Tampa Bay estuary and its main tributaries, including the Hillsborough River and the Alafia River.Deister is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union and the Geochemical Society. She has published several peer-reviewed research articles.
