The BSN program is a limited-access (non-direct admit) program with a competitive admission process. There are 92 seats available for admission beginning every spring semester. Being admitted to UTampa and meeting the minimum BSN program admission requirements does not guarantee admission into the BSN program. You must be admitted to the University of Tampa to be eligible to apply to the BSN program for admission consideration.

Admission to the University of Tampa’s BSN program is once a year in the spring semester. The online application opens July 15, and the deadline to apply is Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST every year. Students are notified early November of admission status. The BSN program is five semesters in length, full-time, once admitted (no summer sessions) starting every January (spring semester).

A student seeking to enter the BSN program initially applies and is admitted to UTampa as a regular undergraduate student with a pre-nursing major. With completion of most of the nursing prerequisites, the student applies for admission into the BSN program in the fall of their sophomore year (third semester). This includes incoming freshmen who may have completed the required prerequisite courses through dual enrollment.

Freshmen are not eligible for admission to the BSN program as they are required to complete several courses as part of Spartan Studies core education requirements during the first two semesters.

Applicants who have completed a minimum of 12 credits at UTampa during the preceding spring and/or summer semesters and are enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the fall semester of application (for the purposes of the Department of Nursing admissions decision process) are considered a current UTampa student. Primary admission consideration is given to current UTampa students.

Transfer applicants/freshmen with college credits receive a transfer credit evaluation after being admitted to the University. Applicants who have not completed a minimum of 12 credits at UTampa during the preceding spring and/or summer semesters and/or are not enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the fall semester of application are categorized as a transfer student. Please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@ut.edu for information regarding the transfer admission process and calculation of cumulative GPA to ensure you meet minimum requirements.

All admission invitations are conditional. Failure to complete or meet any of the following will result in the invitation of admission being rescinded.

  • A reassessment at the end of the Fall semester of cumulative GPA and any in progress course grades to ensure all prerequisites were passed with a minimum of “C” and the cumulative GPA remains a 3.25 or above will be completed. If the cumulative GPA falls below 3.25 or a prerequisite course grade is below “C”, the admission invitation is rescinded.
  • All outside official transcripts of transfer college courses must be received by December 31.
  • Completion of medical clearance and immunization forms
  • Completion of mandatory criminal background check with no disqualifying results
  • Completion of mandatory drug testing with no disqualifying results

Important Highlights

Applying for UTampa's Nursing Program

The online application opens July 15 with a deadline to receive all completed documents by Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST for spring admission.

The acceptance rate varies each application cycle and is dependent on the number of qualified applicants. There are 92 available seats for admission beginning every spring semester.

The BSN program is five semesters in length (2.5 years), going full-time, once admitted, beginning in the spring semester. There are no summer sessions.

A competitive applicant is dependent on the applicant pool and, consequently, varies each application cycle. The average cumulative GPA is 3.6 and the average composite TEAS score is 80.5.

A maximum of two (2) attempts are super scored for each of the tested areas. There is no minimum required score for admission. However, to be considered competitive, a composite score of 80 or greater is recommended. All testing options are accepted.

Nursing Students working and studying

A minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and a minimum 2.5 prerequisite GPA is required before the start of the fall UTampa semester of the BSN application cycle and must be maintained at the end of the fall semester prior to the BSN program spring semester start date.

The cumulative GPA for BSN program applicants includes dual enrollment or any college credits earned outside of UTampa. We encourage students to earn higher than the minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA to be a more competitive candidate during the admission process. The average cumulative GPA of BSN candidates is 3.68.

Advanced Placement (AP), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses are awarded credit hours but are not in the calculation of the cumulative GPA.

Students can apply to the BSN program with prerequisites in progress. All prerequisite course requirements must be completed by the end of the fall semester in which they apply to the program to be eligible. All prerequisites must be passed with a grade of C or higher.
