The University of Tampa’s substantial, innovative progress toward comprehensive internationalization throughout its campus has earned it being named as one of four institutions to be awarded the 2016 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization by the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs (NAFSA): Association of International Educators.

Across Jude Chehab’s resume are the words director, cinematographer, writer. As a little girl growing up first in New York and Florida, then in Lebanon, her mother gave her three other words to weigh carefully, three words she would embrace and use to become the three on her resume today: woman, Muslim, Arab.

“This immediate awareness of responsibility ignited a flame within me instantly,” Chehab ’16 wrote on her application for an upcoming film workshop. “It is a very rare feeling in life to feel ignited, to feel as though the entire world around you has just appeared and with every flame within you, you plan to face it.”

The University of Tampa’s Spring 2016 Honors Program symposia series kicks off on Thursday, Jan. 28, with a presentation by Ryan Cragun, associate professor of sociology. His talk, titled No One Expects a Transgender Jew: Religious, Sexual and Gendered Intersections, begins at noon in Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center.

All lectures are free, open to the public and held on the UT campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
