The University of Tampa’s 2015-2016 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values resumes on Sunday, Feb. 21, with Virtuoso Music for Organ and Piano featuring pianist Jeremy Filsell and organist Nigel Potts. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Did you know the Negro spiritual was the forerunner to the blues, jazz, R & B and modern gospel music?

On Thursday, Feb. 11, The University of Tampa will welcome Naima Johnston-Bush for an interactive multimedia performance that explores the history and meaning of Negro spirituals, Spiritual Songs — The History of Gospel Music. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public.

On Feb. 11–12, The University of Tampa will welcome Emma Rees, professor of literature and gender studies at the University of Chester, U.K., to give readings from her book, The Vagina: A Literary and Cultural History.

On Thursday, Feb. 11, Rees will speak as part of the Department of English and Writing’s Scholars’ Symposia series in conjunction with the Honors Program’s symposia series from 4–5:30 p.m. in Martinez Athletics Center’s Sword & Shield Room.

Rick Thomas ’72, president and CEO of Thomas Financial Group, will speak at The University of Tampa on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Trustees’ Board Room on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center.

Thomas’ presentation, “Never Quit! Tales of Tenacity from the Thames to the Hillsborough,” is part of the Sykes College of Business’ TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series. The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required.
