The University of Tampa’s Lowth Entrepreneurship Center rose to the top as the Readers’ Pick award for the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Coolest Office Spaces 2018.
More than 5,000 people voted in the poll, with UT receiving 24 percent of the vote.

Ryan Deitrich ’15, M.S. in Entrepreneurship ’17 lives on a sailboat docked in St. Petersburg. Last year he was working as a financial advisor for USAA and was saving his money to spend a year in the Caribbean on his floating home.Then he met Ryan Lockwood MBA ’17 in class last fall.

Rebecca J. White, professor of entrepreneurship and director of the John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center at The University of Tampa, was recently awarded the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) Max J. Wortman Lifetime Achievement Award for Entrepreneurship.The lifetime achievement award is presented in recognition of a lifetime of entrepreneurial achievement that encompasses the ideals of entrepreneurial activity. Only 13 individuals have previously received the prestigious award.

Rashid Gargash ’17 doesn’t have a child of his own, but he is familiar with how dangerous a hot car can be to a child or pet left inside. Gargash is from Dubai, a place where summer temperatures easily exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
“It’s an issue there, just like in the U.S.,” said Gargash. The average annual number of heatstroke deaths of children in cars is 37, according to research at NoHeatStroke.org.
It’s why he spent his winter break back home, working. Gargash is part of a team that has developed a device to prevent hot car deaths. Their product, Sense A Life, is a small sensor placed on a car seat that is activated when the vehicle door opens, alerting the driver with an audible sound and, if ignored, through a mobile phone application.

Ryan Deitrich, a University of Tampa student, was recently accepted as one of 17 students nationwide to participate in the 2017 Future Founders Fellowship cohort.
The Future Founders Fellowship is a selective year-long cohort that accelerates the development of the top student entrepreneurs in the nation. Deitrich’s acceptance marks the second time a UT student has been selected for the program, with Matthew Sarli ’16 serving in the 2016 cohort. Fellows benefit from mentoring, entrepreneurship retreats, a peer community and volunteer opportunities through Future Founders programs.
